When does the running season start in Davos Klosters? The answer may be surprising, because it never really ends here. Even in winter, it is wonderful to run here on prepared winter hiking trails.
On the cleared winter hiking trails in Davos Klosters, you can enjoy excellent trail running even in winter. A total of 111 km of trails are available in Davos and 45 km in Klosters – marked with purple signs. The trails are often busy, especially during the peak season from Christmas to the end of February and on weekends. Please be considerate of others and enjoy your running adventure in the winter mountains.
If you don't want to miss out on a challenging climb even in winter, your route from Davos will take you along the Thomas Mann Trail to the Schatzalp – and from there steeply uphill to the Strelapass. Once you reach the top, the sun terrace of the restaurant of the same name awaits as a reward. Tip: Be sure to try the Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancake). Return via the same route. The combination of the Sun Trail and the Waterfall Trail on the Schatzalp is also worthwhile. Don't fancy the roughly 300 meters of elevation gain up to the Schatzalp? Then simply take the Schatzalp cable car.
Klosters also has a classic: the run from Monbiel to Alp Garfiun is ideal for clearing your head. With freshly fallen snow, you almost feel like you've been transported into a winter fairytale come true. At the top of Alp Garfiun there are freshly prepared alpine dishes and a fantastic view. The way back leads along the Landquart back to Klosters Platz.
No matter which route you choose: Trail shoes with a good profile ensure grip on slippery surfaces, while warm functional clothing protects against the cold. In addition, the winter sun comes out late - and sets early. That's why reflectors on your clothing and a headlamp are important companions. And watch out: snow groomers are on the winter hiking trails at night.
